Personal Safes Turn Up in Wake of Disaster

Plenty of personal household safes have been arriving at Japanese police stations in the wake of that country’s current catastrophe.
They haven’t only been recovered by save workers digging through rubble but have also been washed up ashore, and now law enforcement is running out of area to store them.

Up to now, these safes have been kept in the station parking lot, but with each station holding onto several hundred at a time, authorities have decided to attempt a more pro-active approach to reuniting them with their owners outside of simply hoping for those people to show up.
Japanese police now hope to open these safes themselves with the idea of finding identifying information within with which to make their own inquiries.

Under Japanese law, there’s a little more than three weeks for missing items to be claimed by their owners.
After twenty-three days, finders can turn into keepers – or the government takes possession.
Police hope to reunite disaster victims with their valuables ahead of the finders/keepers-law can take effect.
Naturally, given the special conditions involved, extensions to the typical deadline have been made available, but any haste that can be made might surely be welcome by the victims.

The matter is especially important given the Japanese practice, found especially among their elderly, of saving money and other possessions not in banks but at home.
Such “wardrobe savings,” as the Japanese expression goes, is very frequent but has become quite the misfortune for disaster affected individuals who have lost literally everything short of their lives and the clothes on their backs.
Therefore, any energy expedited on behalf of such people would not simply be significantly appreciated but is absolutely essential to ensure even their very continued survival.
Luckily, of course, it is because of the distinctive nature of Japan that valuables have been completed, along with the absence of looting and other rioting – a fact not lost on envious foreign observers.

Electronic cigarettes are all the rage among smokers in the 21st Century.
For those who don’t smoke, the whole thing just adds yet another layer of bewilderment to it all, surely, but they may be amazed to know that many are using the devices to quit the habit, not simply to continue engaging in it.

In a lesser-of-two-evils sort of way, electronic cigarettes have been identified to be safer than traditional cigarettes by none other than the Boston University School of Public Health.
A study conducted in 2010 found out that these devices were “much safer” than conventional method of nicotine delivery – and on the subject of nicotine, the level of toxicity they contained was similar to those in existing nicotine replacements such as patches and chewing gum!

In fact, the amount of carcinogens associated with electronic cigarettes was found to be up to a thousand times lower than that in normal cigarettes.
The study even noted that preliminary evidence up to now demonstrates that such devices can actually help smokers quit smoking by simulating a real tobacco cigarette.
And indeed, some people, ironically, doubt that any appreciable amount of nicotine is sent at all!
In fact, differing concentrations of nicotine can be found, so that users can decide the amount of nicotine they wish to take in, from none whatsoever to levels even higher than otherwise available!

However, it is also essential to note that while many manufacturers and resellers have promoted the products to be a simple and even effective method of giving up smoking, even the trade group recently formed to signify the industry calls for its members to avoid making such claims.
Alternatively, surveys of users discovered at least the perception of a reduction in health problems, such as less coughing, the elevated capability to exercise, and an advancement in the senses of taste and smell!

Hearing Protection for Target Practice

Near the rifle range, using hearing protection is essential. Some won’t even allow you to shoot without them! Without a doubt, it’s thrilling to hear such a sound directly, for yourself, for real, a sound that’s been processed for you through countless movies and television shows — there’s nothing quite like it, no matter how realistic an audio set-up you have for your home theater! But the ear is a delicate thing, and hearing one of our most essential senses (to be sure, all of them are important, but imagining life without sight or sound mysteriously seems so much more tragic than one without smell or taste, sad as those losses would be, too), so protecting those delicate hairs within our ears is important.
